Formation

Our Basic Formation

Basic Ecclesial Community / Small Caring Group / Youth Bible Study
-         If we are to become a community of disciples of Jesus, we need to be familiar with the Gospels because that is how we will learn who is Jesus, His values, how He lived, what He taught and what He expects from us.
-         If we are to become a community of disciples of Jesus, which means being true followers of Christ, we need to imbibe and live out the Gospel values of truth, faith, hope, love, justice, peace, simplicity, and joy.
-         How do we learn these? From reading, reflecting, meditating praying over the messages we receive from the gospel texts. We need to internalize these values and live by them in our daily lives. We are also help by the good example of other people who are also earnestly trying to become disciple of Jesus. Hence, sharing our faith-experiences with one another is very much encouraged. We are touched by the life of faith of other people and so our own faith grows; we get closer to one another; and slowly we become more and more a basic ecclesial community (BEC).
-         The Christian community is nourished by two realities: the Bread of the Word (Gospel-Sharing) and the Bread of Life (the Holy Eucharist). Hence, Cell members, besides doing Gospel Sharing at least once a month, should also approach the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist more frequently. Sunday Mass and Communion is a must!
-         All cell members of the barangay youth ministry should attend formation meetings, following the Seven Steps at least once a month (minimum). Once a week should be ideal.
-         It is suggested that cell members do a daily reading of the Gospel (if possible) following these steps.

The Four R’s

Read – take the Gospel reading of the day
Reflect – think about what you just read
Rest – stop thinking, be a very quiet, relax and listen to what the Lord is telling you through silence
Respond – pray with the text you read, and the inspiration you got

Other Formation Programs

For further Christian formation, barangay youth ministry cell members are encouraged to attend the different youth formation programs conducted or implemented by the parish commission on youth ministry.
